Educational and Fun go hand in hand: The Dressing Frames form part of Montessori’s ‘Practical Life’ materials that help the child develop his fine motor skills as he practices the use of everyday life fasteners. These frames are specific of the area ‘care of self’ since they prepare the child for the opening and closing of their own clothes. This is why the frames go from easier to more complex fasteners. For smaller children it is recommended to start with the Velcro frame which is easier for him to handle and fasten. As he becomes more experienced and ready for more challenges he can continue with pressure brooches, snap hooks and the zipper frame. Once he has managed to work with all the above mentioned it is suggested he continues big buttons and then small buttons. These require more concentration and finer hand eye coordination. Finally, the child is ready to advance with more difficult fasteners such as the buckles frame, the ribbon and laces frame. The latter named are suggested for older children because they require more complex skills such as tying bows with the ribbons and zigzag and bow with the laces frame. This educational toy aims to aid the child in everyday activities like getting dressed so he may find himself independent and self motivated. The less he needs an adult to help him the more self sufficient he will be able to become.

Why buy this item: The Dressing Frames are wooden toys that because of their size do not take up much space and can be easily hang from hooks on the wall or simply rest on any surface you may think appropriate for the child. The point of interest in each frame is the way the fabrics are joined by the different materials. Every one of them has a specific material whether its buttons, hooks, buckles, ribbons or laces and each one has a specific way of ‘opening’  and ‘closing’. This becomes very appealing to the child as well as the fact that he works with real objects of everyday life use. He becomes aware that the use of the frames can later be transferred to his actual clothes.
